802.11n - Delivers a Supercharged WLAN

There is been a growing demand for higher-performing wireless local area networks (WLANs).

To address the demands, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers - Standards Association (IEEE-SA) approved the creation of the IEEE 802.11 Task Group N or 802.11 TGn.

This group has heavy input from Intel. As a group, they have set their target minimum throughput requirements to a whopping 4x times faster than today's WLAN 802.11a/g networks.

802.11n will also support all major platforms, including handheld platforms, consumer electronics and personal computing. It will also be applicable to many environments like your home, public hotspots and of course-the enterprise.

So what about backwards compatability with 802.11a/b/g legacy solutions? Well it should be smooth as TGn is requiring backward compatibility.

Expect this supercharged WLAN to open up new market segments with some very interesting applications!
