CEO of CTIA Cellular Association - Invitation to President Bush fot a Veto Party

This is a real mess for Qualcomm..
Back in June U.S. International Trade Commission's issued a ban on Qualcomm phones coming into theU.S.  This was a result of a patent feud between Qualcomm and Broadcom.

So - in steps Steve Largent, president and CEO of the CTIA cellular industry association.  He sent a letter last Wednesday to President Bush asking him to strike the U.S. International Trade Commission's ban. The key here is that President Bush must veto the ban quickly as they only have 60 days from the ruling- June 07.

Steve Largent reportedly believes that the ban will most likely polarize innovation for wireless networks in the U.S. Additionally, it will adversely affect public safety as the ban will hinder the mobile industry's efforts to improve emergency 911 services.

So - the concern is that newer technologies developed by Qualcomm that have  better lcoational services for  911 callers - won't be imported if the ban stands.
