TKO in Japan - Nintendo's Wii out sells Sony's PS3
Nintendo's Wii knocked out their compeition - the Sony PlayStation 3 - by nearly three to one in Japan this past month. Reports state that Nintendo sold 405,000 Wii units in January while Sony sold 148,000 PS3s.
The Wii has a broader game offering and they are much lower in cost. The basic Sony PS3 sells for $416 or 49,980 yen in Japan. This is twice the price of the Wii.
The higher console price coupled with the fact their games are more costly should cause Sony to re-think their pricing strategy for the Japanese market. And oh by the way - the US too please!
