Non-SMS Data Revenues Catapult to %10 Billion
Non-SMS data revenues exceed $10 billion in Q1
These figures are based on International revenues for the first quarter of 2007.
Last year the figures were $8.1 billion in Q1 of 2006. The same time this year was $11.3 billion in the first quarter of 2007. These reports came from business intelligence firm Informa Telecoms & Media.
Informa projects that one third of all mobile data revenues come from other services - not SMS services. All in all, SMS traffic increased by about 50 percent year-on-year to more than 620 billion messages in the first quarter. This equates to about a 23% increase in revenues in the same period. So, as reported by Informa, the total revenues reached $34.3 billion in Q1. This is a whopping growth and we look for this to continue.
This growth is most likely due to the fact that EVERYONE has a phone and is s accustomed to using cell services for direct interaction with people. Additionally, as Informa stated - lower SMS tariffs and the increased availability of bundled packages has spiked use of the services..
