Cell Phone Acceptance - Pew Research Stats

According to the Pew Internet and American Life Project -Americans are now using their mobile phones more than their landline phones. No surprise to me. Landlines are that-tied to land and we are all on the move. Plus landline phones don't provide email, text messaging and Internet surfing. In contrast, cell phones provide us with direct on-the-go communications at many levels; business, friends, family, shopping, driving directions and more.

Because of the lack of functionality with landlines phones- mobile handsets are THE tech devices Americans are most reluctant to live without. They would give up the Internet and television over their cell phones!

In comparison, two years ago landlines topped the Pew Research list with television in 2nd place and cell phones in 3rd. Wow we've come a long way in 2 years! Look at these stats!

According to Pew Research:
- 58 percent of mobile users have now sent or received text messages
- 41 percent increase over April 2006 totals
- 31 percent of mobile subscribers employ text services daily
- 15 percent turn to camera features - 8 percent playing mobile games
- 8 percent rely on their phones for email

I expect these numbers to continue to grow as more functionality is embedded into lower-end (less expensive) cell phones. Additionally, mobile carriers are adjusting fees as competition increases. This will allow the general population to have access to more functionality at cheapers costs.
