SQL Server 2008 - Code named Katmai

Last week in Seattle Microsoft held their Business Intelligence Conference 2007. The main attraction? Katmai.

Katmai is Microsofts' code name for SQL Server 2008 currently underway!

Katmai's data platform will reportedly include an enhanced enterprise policy-based framework. This feature allows database administrators to define a common set of policies for database operations. Including naming conventions, query optimizors, and backup and restore operations. This means no more cumbersome script management!

Katmai also has a resource governor to manage resources based on a "per-instance" basis. This helps with system performance when you are running multiple applications.

Stay tuned for their official release date and more features for SQL Server 2008.
