DoCoMo Mobile GeoMap Services - Partenering with Zenrin to make it happen
DoCoMo is making a move to provide advanced Mobile Map Services.
They just inked an alliance with ZENRIN DataCom, Japan's leading publisher of map content. DataCom was founded in 2000 to develop easy-to-use digital map and location identification services leveraging the Internet. Their mobile navigation services started in late 2004. So they are a perfect partner for DoCoMo.
The team's effort will facilitate advanced development of mobile map services. They will use DataCom's map content coupled with DoCoMo's applications and mobile handsets. It is reported that DoCoMo will provide a search platform that integrates DataCom developed mobile navigation services. These services will be linked to ZENRIN LLC's (DataComs parent) large cartographic database.
For the partnership, DoCoMo recieves a 10.27% share in ZENRIN DataCom. They will acquire 1,700 newly allocated shares with the acquisition being completed by June 8th, 2007.
