Convergence of IP Telephony services - "SIP" by Avaya

Ever heard of "SIP"? It stands for Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). A company named Avaya promises that this will bring a new level to IP Telephony services.

They are converging real-time communications like instant messaging, video and voice services to deliver a more "presence aware" experience.

Users have the ability to create simple rules that defines how to manage or route calls and text messages to respond more rapidly to incoming communications.

From a corporate perspective- employees can collaborate on a customer's service call in real-time. From a support perspective this can increase first call support resolution.

SIP is based on open standards and interoperates in multi-vendor environments.
