Nokia to acquire Trolltech- Open Source software provider

Nokia announced that they are making an offer to acquire
Trolltech for a whopping $153 million.

Trolltech, a Norwegian open source software provider, develops software and application platforms. Trolltech is used in programs like Google Earth, Adobe Photoshop Elements and Skype.

Nokia is obviously wanting to step up their competitive edge to boost their cross-platform software strategy for desktop applications and mobile
devices.

Trolltech will allow more rapid development of apps optimized for
the Internet across Nokia's device portfolio and on PC's.

Developers will welcome the ability to leverage Web 2.0 technologies. This solution will provide common cross-platform layers on top Nokias software platforms accelerating development and shortening time-to-market.

The end result- both Nokia and third party developers can create applications more rapidly and cost effectively.
