LiMo Hits it big-Mobile World Congress 2008 in Barcelona Spain
Barcelona is crazy for LiMo!
Linux Mobile Operating systems....
In Barcelona, the LiMo Foundation unveiled the first handsets based on their LiMo Platform. These included Motorola's Moto Z6w, Moto U9, Motorokr Z6 and RAZR2 V8. Panasonic's FOMA P905iTV and FOMA N7051. NEC's FOMA N905i and FOMA N705i. Plus Samsung's SGH-i800. Prototype handsets were also shown by Aplix, LG and Purple Labs.
The LiMo Foundation also announced partnerships with operator Orange & software providers AMD, Open-Plug, Access Co., FueTrek, Renesas Technology, Samsung SDS, SoftBank and STMicroelectronics.
Here is a brief summary of other recent announcements in the LiMo market:
1) Google introduced their Linux-based Android (Linux-based)operating system. This is being used by Qualcomm per a recent partnership.
2) In late January, Nokia bid $153 million to acquire Norwegian Linux-based software provider Trolltech.
3) European semiconductor firm NXP & French mobile Linux components supplier Purple Labs announced joint development of a 3G Linux feature phone.
NXP and Purple Labs phone will deliver music playback, video telephony, high-speed Internet browsing and video streaming.
This is the first handset with this kind of functionality offered under $100.
LiMo also will offer an SDK strategy later in 2008 that will support the Native, Java and WebKit SDKs. The SDK suite is being developed by LiMo board members Motorola, Access Co., Aplix, Azingo and Wind River.
