7digital & Warner team to provide DRM-free content

7digital is the first European music
retailer to offer Warner content without digital rights restrictions.

7digital, a digital media delivery firm, announced an agreement with Warner Music Group to sell DRM-free Warner MP3 downloads. The service will target customers in the U.K., France, Ireland, Spain, and Germany.

DRM-free music aims to provide users with better interoperability with multiple devices.

7digital and Warner plan to bundle digital music products such as album bundles with extra content. They will also tie-in dedicated artist and label pages which Warner executives can update remotely. "

7digital currently has a catalog of 3.5 million tracks and a customer base of 1.2 million. It is reported that their DRM-free MP3s outsell rival digital formats such as AAC and WMA by a 4 to 1 ratio.
