PCI Compliance - Hannaford Breach was 4.2 Million
The reported theft of credit and debit card numbers from Hannaford Bros. Co, a supermarket chain in Maine, ended-up being over 4.2 million numbers/customers.
These customer numbers were stolen by a cyberintruder over the past three months. This breach hit 271 stores in the supermarket chain with 23 independently owned markets along with 70 banks nationwide.
The one thing that was bad about the Hannaford theft was that the data was stolen while it was in transit-not from internal employees accessing the database.
But the mother of all breaches still belongs to TJX. That breach effected 94 million cardholders.
The Hannaford breach contributed to around 1,800 associated fraud cases with more to follow most likely. Class action lawsuits have already started hitting Hannaford.
