Verizon - Any App and Device program revealed at their Open Development Conference

Today in NYC Verizon had their "Open Development Conference".  In the spotlight was their "Any App and Device" program. This allows consumers the ability to download any application without previous restrictions. You can choose from a variety of payment options where as in the past you had to go through your Verizon plan.  Plus you were forced to extend your contract and be subjected to more fees. So no more of that we hope if they want to be competitive.

 

If you are a hardware provider / partner the projected certification timeis 4 weeks. 

When the device is certified it can then be registered in their database as an approved device. So to get on board as a harware vendor you can sell the device sans voice/data or you can buy airtime from Verizon at a wholesale price.  If you do the wholesale option you will need to do your own advertising and distribution sales.  Verizon will kick off this program later at the end of the year.  Finally - a good move to keep them competitve.
