Security Technology Mergers - Good for developers and web application markets

Security mergers and acquisitions over the past few weeks have sent rumbles throughout the Security industry. In the Web application security market, IBM announced on June 7th that it would acquire Watchfire - the developer of AppScan web application vulnerability assessment software.

Meanwhile, HP wants to acquire SPI Dynamics- developer of Assessment Management Platform. Then there is PatchLink who recently announced their plans to merge with SecureWave to offer more security into their software products.

Word has it that customers are nervous about HP taking over SPI Dynamics.  On the flip-side, IBM should be able to migrate Watchfire's technologies into their Rational development platform leveraged by developers to model, design and build Web-based architectures for SOA systems and applications.

I guess all in all - this is good for the Web application market, customers and developers.
