Legacy iPods won't support Apple iTunes Video rentals

The problem for Fifth-generation iPod users is that the new iTunes video rental service won't work!

There are more than 1 or 2 issues to be considered here. The first could be Apples attempt for you to upgrade-buy a new iPod. Another valid point is licensing issues associated with digital rights management (DRM).

More apparent is the fact that 5G has an analog hole that could allow users to copy content more easily. A licensing & legal nightmare.

However, Sarbanes Oxley may also be at play. It is reported that Sarbox would require Apple to restate earnings for previously purchased products if major feature enhancements are offered.

Honestly- I think all of these points will keep legacy iPods just that-legacy. Very few companies want you to keep your device for more than a year-it decreases sales revenues greatly! Look at how fast phones change. If you want the new bells and whistles-you have to get a new phone. Same thing here-trust in that!

So if you want this years iTune video services - expect to set aside (or donate!) your old iPods.
